Submission rules should be inclusive.
Some of our authors prefer a looser approach to submitting, while others prefer stricter guidelines. We've provided a number of options so that you may choose what methods work best for you. Our goal is to provide everyone with an accessible, stress-free submission process free of complex rules.
How To Submit:
Quick and Dirty submission rules for busy authors:
- 4 poems.
- 4 art pieces.
- Combo art/poems is totally fine.
- We need your name and your pronouns.
- We like bios when you submit.
- Also drop whatever socials you want tagged.
- Email us at submissions@lavenderlimeliterary.com
Low Key Rules for those who hate structure:
- Write something in the email.
We don't need a lot- just your basic info, any content or trigger warnings that should go with the works you are submitting, and maybe your favorite ice cream flavor or dinosaur. Nobody asks the tough questions anymore. - Include a short bio.
Please include a short bio in the body of your email. The goal is around 50 words. - It's gotta be readable.
We like readable fonts. We like attached documents with poems starting on a new page, but please submit your work however is best for you, securing that it will be readable for us and don't stress it. - Submit your work with your email.
We prefer document attachments, but you can send your work in the body of your email if that's what's best for you. - On Artwork:
Image files should be the highest res you can send us. If the imagery is meant to be published alongside a written work, please include it in the document with the written piece, or tell us what's what in the body of your email. - Email us and don't worry about the exact rules.
Submissions and questions may be sent to us at submissions@lavenderlimeliterary.com.
Nuanced Rules for those who prefer them
- Write a short cover letter.
We don't need a lot- just your basic info, any content or trigger warnings that should go with the works you are submitting, and maybe your favorite ice cream flavor or dinosaur. Nobody asks the tough questions anymore. - Include a short bio.
Please include a short bio (50ish words is the general vibe) in the body of your email. Do not attach the bio in the documents you are submitting as those should remain anonymous. - 12 pt readable font and start new poems on a new page.
Written works should be typed in a standardized font (Times New Roman, Corbel, Helvetica, etc.) and should be of average font size (12ish is fine). Exceptions for this are welcomed- present your work as you intend it. Handwritten pieces are welcomed, but please also include a typed version for accessibility. We will publish them side by side. Please format your writing so that new pieces start on a new page in your document. This way, it's clear where your poems separate. (To clarify, let's say Poem One is a page and a half long, and Poem Two is a haiku. You would put the haiku on a new page by itself (for a total of three pages of poems) and not underneath Poem One in the extra half page left at the end of Poem One.) - Attach as .doc, .docx, or .pdf.
Written works should be submitted as an attachment in .doc, .docx, or .pdf form. Please do not drop written pieces into the body of the email. Imagery should be submitted as a high resolution .jpg or .png. If the imagery is meant to be published alongside a written work, please include it in the document with the written piece, and not as a separate file in the email. If that is not possible, please tell us in the email which visual pieces belong to which written works. - Email us.
Submissions and questions should be sent to us at submissions@lavenderlimeliterary.com.
Notes for Submitting:
- We will publish previously published works- please drop proper credit so all the lit mags get the love.
- We ask that submissions be limited to four submissions per issue. Pieces that would be published together, such as a poem with a sketch, would count as one submission. Written pieces should be less than 1000 words. We do not accept flash fiction.
- We are a trauma-informed publication. Please read more about that here, and be sure to include trigger warnings on your pieces when necessary.
- We accept simultaneous submissions. If your works are accepted somewhere else, huzzah! Please let us know asap so that we can lift your voice even higher!
- Submissions should be blind. Please do not add your name or other personal information to your attachments, but be sure to let us know your preferred name and pronouns in your email. If you fudge, don't worry. We can fix it in post.
- Please wait up to 2 months for a reply. If you have not heard from us in that time, please feel free to email us and touch base.
- We allow for submissions (up to four pieces, as described above) per submission period. You can send those in all at once or over the whole period four different times- whatever works best for you. We publish four issues a year. If all of your pieces are rejected, please wait until the next submission period to send us more work. If accepted, we ask that you wait until we are accepting submissions for the publication following the one that features your work to allow room for other creators.
- We do not presently offer or take payment of any kind.
- Submissions and questions should be sent to us at submissions@lavenderlimeliterary.com.

What we will ban you for:
Lavender Lime Literary is a trauma-informed publication. We refuse to accept any works that glorify violence in any way. Further, we refuse works that are racist, sexist, ableist, homophobic, xenophobic, transphobic, non-inclusive or other stains on society as a whole. While we are not specifically a political publication, we can smell out fascism and will shoot you out of the water. Submissions that remotely imply any of this kind of thinking will be deleted and the authors will be permanently banned from any and all future submission opportunities.
